You did it again ISSA

Dear Issa,

You did it again and I do not mean that as a compliment. Somehow there are no tickets available for Champs. Somehow they were all sold out. Die hard track and field fans are left in a tizzy. We’ve seen this before where the tickets magically reappear on Friday afternoon and Saturday all day at rather inflated prices. There were quite a few empty seats in the grand stand on that fateful Saturday. This was a sight to behold as I’ve never seen it before and I never knew it was possible certainly not at Champs.

I was hoping to remind you all that this Championship is about the athletes and the fans. It is not about the 6 or so entrepreneurs who happened to get their hands on in excess of 1,000 tickets each. In that same year, when the tickets magically reappeared and were being sold for as much as $10,000 for the Saturday show many gave in and bought it. It’s been over 2 years so if we factor in the fixed and variable factors then someone should expect to pay in excess of $15,000.

Mr. or Miss ISSA what you fail to understand is that persons are struggling to put food on their table not only in Jamaica but all over the world. A round trip ticket from New York for this 5 day extravaganza is a whopping US1,100. The run down Pegasus goes for almost US140 per night. Food and drinks another $4,000 per day. Transportation is another $800. So pray tell where must my friends find the $8,000-$10,000 on Friday and $10,000 to $15,000 on Saturday. You do the Math.

CVM will carry the event live and they do a fairly good job. They give the statistics and point standings something we never get i.e. the stats or something we leave to the pundits in the stadium to calculate i.e. the point standings. Staying home you don’t have to worry about filthy bathrooms, expensive food and ridiculous long food lines, criminal elements inside and outside of the stadium and the violence which comes on the last day. Instead you can watch from the comforts of your living room or for those in the diaspora they can watch it on the internet. As technology improves and more continue to wise up, your precious Championships will become a television affair. Please see the NFL and NBA ticket number and they will tell the story.

As my Granny use to say everyday you carry bucket go a well then one day the bottom must drop out.

Top of the morning to you,
JOE (contributor)
