Pullen hops, skips and jumps on board flight to Rio 2016

by admin· July 01, 2016· in Jamaica Olympics, Rio 2016, Team Jamaica, Track and Field· 0 comments
“I have been knocking on this door ever since I left high school and it finally opened. I am obviously not far away from the qualifying mark so without a doubt one would automatically assume I have plans for Rio 2016. Well, I am here to confirm that assumption. I do have plans for Rio.” Those were the words of Clive Pullen, the Jamaican Triple Jumper after cutting the sand at a then personal best of 16.54m while competing at the Tyson Invitational on February 13, 2016. Wins at the 2016 SEC Indoor and NCAA Indoor Championships boosted his confidence and some two months later the former Kingston College standout improved his personal record to 16.78m. The automatic qualifying mark for Rio 2016 (16.85m) was well within his reach, a small matter of less than 10cm away. The University of Arkansas Junior knew there were technical and approach flaws to address and went back to the proverbial ‘drawing board’ with his coaches in preparation for the big NCAA Championships and more importantly his ‘Mission Rio’ dreams. He failed to create an impression in the sand at the NCAA Division One Track and Field Championships but was still confident […]

Eyes on the Clock – Expectations High for Akeem Bloomfield

by admin· March 16, 2016· in Champs 2016, Team Jamaica, Track and Field· 0 comments
Akeem ‘Zoomfield’ Bloomfield and his handlers have stated that the IAAF World Junior Championships and qualification for the Rio Olympics 2016 are high on his list of priorities this year. They know however that before they tackle those major objectives, there is the big matter of his defence of the 400m title at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championshipb2016 or ‘Champs’ as it is more commonly called. Bloomfield had arguably the performance of the 2015 ‘Champs’ when hebhumbled a top quality field on his way to a breathtaking National JuniorbRecord run of 44.93 to take the Class One 400m. He has been meticulouslybprepared, some say handled with kid’s gloves in the build up to ‘Champs’. His non-appearance early season even sparked debates as to his well-being and the possibility that injury would yet again rob the brilliant Kingston College athlete from showcasing his immense talent on the greatest platform for high school track and field in the world. Many watched anxiously as the lanky 18 year old made his belated season opening appearance at the CARIFTA Trials in conditions that were far from ideal. He did not disappoint, effortlessly putting away the field to win his heat […]

The Adidas Grand Prix on Randall’s Island in New York will no longer be a part of the IAAF Diamond League series, the track and field governing body announced on Thursday. The Diamond League will replace the meet with a new addition to the circuit on May 22 in Rabat, Morocco. As for the event in New York, details will be announced in April. Organizers want to include elite distance and sprint categories, as well as pole vault and long jump—the high school “Dream Mile,” a coveted race for the nation’s fastest high school runners, is also on the itinerary. “We are pleased to be able to take our premier athletics series into a new continental area,” IAAF president Seb Coe said in a statement. “The IAAF Diamond League offers the best athletics entertainment to the world outside of the IAAF World Championships and the Olympic Games. Broadcast annually in over 120 countries, the series provides Athletics with its next most prominent global shop window. We thank New York for contributing to this great project during the last six seasons and know that they will continue to support Athletics in the future. We proudly welcome the inclusion of […]

Usain Bolt coaches young sprinter in new Telkom commercial

by admin· February 10, 2016· in Jamaica, Jamaica Olympics, Jamaican Athletes, PUMA, Rio 2016, Team Jamaica, Track and Field, Usain Bolt· 0 comments
Usain Bolt plays coaching to young sprinter in a commercial published Tuesday Feb 9, 2016. The six-time Olympic champion sprinter acted in a one-minute spot for the South African telecommunications company Telkom. In true Bolt style, even the filming of the TV commercial had to be done at high pace. The athlete’s preparations ahead of this year’s Olympic Games remain his primary focus, and filming had to be carefully structured around his punishing training schedule. Filming took place in Bolt’s home base of Kingston, Jamaica, and the team, led by Telkom’s agency DDB, was given just three hours to complete the shoot. Bolt’s management worked closely with Telkom and DDB to ensure the developed concept would resonate with the superstar athlete. The storyline, which sees Bolt training and developing a young athlete, certainly achieved this. Telkom used cinema-style technology to produce the advert – which features a toddler track star in training – while keeping a realistic look and feel. As children have proportionately bigger heads, feet, hands and knees compared to adults, fat suit technology was used to allow an adult athlete to be filmed in the sporting sequences. This allowed seamless filming while maintaining the correct […]
