Michael O’Hara will run at 2015 Penn Relays

by admin· April 23, 2015· in Track and Field· 0 comments
March 23, 2015: This serves to inform the public that Michael O’Hara has been declared eligible by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (“PIAA”) to participate in the 2015 staging of the Penn Relays. O’Hara’s aggressive legal team, lead by local based Attorney Donovan St. L. Williams of the firm Donovan St. L. Williams & Co., US based Attorneys Paul Greene of Global Sports Advocates and Steven Silver of McBreen & Kopko filed an emergency application in the Philadelphia Court, District of Pennsylvania and successfully challenged the PIAA’s decision to ban O’Hara from running at the Penn Relays. The Court made an Order directing the PIAA to conduct a hearing to properly consider the matter of O’Hara’s eligibility. Subsequent to the hearing, the PIAA and Penn Relays agreed to reinstate Michael’s amateur status with immediate effect thereby allowing him to run at the Penn relays. “Undoubtedly we are pleased with this decision and look forward to seeing Michael’s talent on display on the track,”. Greene said. Steven Silver who argued the case in Philadelphia said “O’Hara is a maverick for mounting this challenge before a Philadelphia court and the PIAA”. Day 5 Boys Preview: Fasten your seat belts

by admin· March 28, 2015· in Track and Field· 0 comments tags: Boys and Girls Champs
Many, especially the throngs of Calabar supporters believe its all over bar the shouting with only an unlikely calamitous collapse on Day 5 standing between the Red Hills Road standard bearers and their 4th consecutive lien on the Mortimer Geddes Trophy, the coveted symbol of boys high school track and field supremacy in Jamaica. Calabar is indeed in pole position after Day 4 and with a 23 point lead and the calibre of athletes the school has in finals on Day 5, one cannot fault those who believe its over. Supporters of a rejuvenated KC believe that they can steal the title on the last day having secured quality entries in many of the finals on the last day. Edwin Allen lead with 131.50 points with Hydel in second on 113 and St. Jago in third on 86.33 points. Holmwood (75) and Vere (46) complete the top 5. (Points tally subject to change) Calabar is set to score heavily in the sprint hurdles with Michael O’Hara and Seanie Selvin in Class One, favourite Dejour Russell and Alex Robinson in Class Two and Craig Brown in Class Three. KC doesn’t have the quality in the sprint hurdles but should score well […]

Day 4 Girls Review: Surging St. Jago dominate sprints

by admin· March 28, 2015· in Track and Field· 0 comments tags: Boys and Girls Champs
Edwin Allen High kept on course to defend their title closing Day 4 on top after some dramatic and keenly contested action on the track and in the field events. The Frankfield based institution enters the final day in the driving seat but history has taught them that complacency is not an option. Despite the resounding win in 2014, the demons of 2013 have not been completely exorcised as back then the school closed the penultimate day in front before failing to withstand a late charge by a rampaging Holmwood Technical. Edwin Allen lead with 131.50 points with Hydel in second on 113 and St. Jago in third on 86.33 points. Holmwood (75) and Vere (46) complete the top 5. (Points tally subject to change) Day 4 saw two longstanding records being broken. The talented Peta-Gay Williams of St. Jago (13.56 seconds – Class One 100m Hurdles) broke Melaine Walker’s 13 year old record of 13.68 seconds in the sprint hurdles semi-finals. The very versatile Tamara Moncrieffe of Holmwood Technical (13.63M -Triple Jump Open) shook off the disappointment of the High Jump to write her name in the record books after eclipsing the 8 year old mark set by 2014 […]

Ties that Bind – Champs preview

by admin· March 24, 2015· in Track and Field· 0 comments
It’s ‘Champs’ time again and the banter gets louder as arguably the most prestigious high school track and field championship in the world looms. Social media is all abuzz with anticipation, predictions, friendly and not so friendly disses as keyboard and touch screen coaches, strategist, “wagonists”, analysts, experts and even the non-aligned has his say. The contenders and pretenders grapple for supremacy in cyberspace with many a friendship placed on hiatus. The exchanges between the usual suspects range from the rational to the ridiculous as the ties that bind appear to be so tight that it chokes reasoning. Verbal wars are waged by ‘old boys’ as they relive glory days vicariously relishing the raging battles in the coliseum. Every champs-related post, article and picture is dissected and overanalyzed with supporters of perennial contenders Calabar High School, Kingston College, Jamaica College and to an extent St. Jago High and Wolmer’s Boys’ refusing to yield ground, praising their teams every move while at times discounting the efforts of the schools they see as their biggest rivals. Posts are punctuated with badge of honour comments like Fortis, Fortis Forever, Rabalac Lion, Utmost for the Highest, Labor Omnia Vincit, Fervet, True Blue and Age […]

Yohan Blake out for season after surgery

by admin· July 23, 2014· in News, Sourced, Track and Field· 0 comments
Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint silver medallist Yohan Blake has been ruled out for the rest of the 2014 season after undergoing surgery on an injured hamstring, coach Glen Mills said on Tuesday. The 24-year-old sustained the injury in the 100 metres at the Glasgow Grand Prix on July 11. “Right now he’s on crutches, he had to have an operation a couple of days ago,” Mills told Reuters. [column2] [/column2][column2_last] [/column2_last] “The injury was quite severe and the original prognosis was misdiagnosed and he went Germany and when they had a good look, they realised that it was more serious and required surgery, so he’ll be out for quite a long time.” Blake, who could not defend his 100m world title in Moscow last year because of a hamstring injury, had opted against racing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting on Wednesday to concentrate his build-up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Team Jamaica World Relays predictions

by admin· May 24, 2014· in Jamaica, JO Articles, News, Rio 2016, Track and Field· 0 comments tags: IAAF World Relays, Team Jamaica, Watch IAAF World Relays LIVE Stream
JOE SPEAKS Only an disaster of epic proportion can stop Jamaica from winning 3 definite gold medals with two additional almost in the bag. Wait, zip up the bag please.   I PREDICT GOLD FOR JAMAICA IN WOMEN’S 4X100 A botched exchange or dropped baton and it will not happen in the name of Jesus. Somebody bring me my church fan and my iced tea. Glory. L.O.L. No relation to Glory Alozie. DWL. As I said if we run Carrie to Stewart to Annie to Shelly then we win easily. MEN’S 4X100 Easy does it for this one. I am sure our junior team could beat the U.S. Again barring drama we should win easily. MEN’S 4X200 The world record could go but it’s too early in the season and everyone isn’t race sharp. It all depends on the lineup. Do I hear whispers from the penny section that they should add the 4X200 to the Olympics and World Championships? Talk up di tings. POSSIBLE GOLD WOMEN’S 4X200 It will be tough if we use the same four girls from the 4X100 to run in the 4X200. If both were straight finals then I would say hell yeah. A […]
