Jamaica U20 second half come back to draw with Trinidad

by admin· January 10, 2015· in Football, Reggae Boyz, Soccer, Sourced· 0 comments tags: CONCACAF Boys U20 Jamaica, U20, Young Reggae Boyz
Jamaica staged a furious rally to earn a 2-2 draw in the first match for each in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship on Friday at the National Stadium. The Soca Warriors struck twice in the opening 15 minutes, but Junior Flemmings fired a 23-yard free kick into the back of the net in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage to complete the comeback. Aikim Andrews gave the Trinidadians a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, ripping a right-sided shot from 35-yards out that may have taken a deflection before it sailed over the head of goalkeeper Nicholas Nelson. Nine minutes later, Kadeem Corbin – the top scorer in the final round of Caribbean qualifying with five goals – doubled the advantage.   After the break, Trinidad stayed on the front foot, nearly making it 3-0 in the 56th minute. An attempt by Kevon Goddard from 20-yards out appeared to be deflected, forcing Nelson to remain alert in order to make a save. Duane Muckette could have put the game on ice shortly afterwards, only to snap his effort – while in a one-on-one situation with Nelson – beyond the left post. Yohan Blake out for season after surgery

by admin· July 23, 2014· in News, Sourced, Track and Field· 0 comments
Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint silver medallist Yohan Blake has been ruled out for the rest of the 2014 season after undergoing surgery on an injured hamstring, coach Glen Mills said on Tuesday. The 24-year-old sustained the injury in the 100 metres at the Glasgow Grand Prix on July 11. “Right now he’s on crutches, he had to have an operation a couple of days ago,” Mills told Reuters. [column2] [/column2][column2_last] [/column2_last] “The injury was quite severe and the original prognosis was misdiagnosed and he went Germany and when they had a good look, they realised that it was more serious and required surgery, so he’ll be out for quite a long time.” Blake, who could not defend his 100m world title in Moscow last year because of a hamstring injury, had opted against racing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting on Wednesday to concentrate his build-up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.   Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jamaica’s much-decorated “Pocket Rocket”, loves relays. After all, in addition to being the world and Olympic champion at 100m, the diminutive sprinter was the anchor of Jamaica’s championship-record-setting 4x100m relay team in Moscow, the second-fastest of all time at 41.29. She also led off Jamaica’s silver medal team in London, bested there only by USA’s 40.82 world record run. Fraser-Pryce will be carrying the baton twice for Jamaica in Nassau, entered in both the 4x100m and 4x200m pools. With 24 countries entering teams – from Jamaica’s Rocket-powered 4x100m to Bahrain’s 4x1500m team featuring Maryam Yusuf Jamal – every women’s race list includes global champions. And for every team with a world or Olympic champion, there is another quartet hoping to gain just enough ground on the other three legs to overcome that advantage. [hr] Watch IAAF World Relays LIVE Stream Women’s 4x100M The USA holds the world record of 40.82 in this event, set in London at the 2012 Olympics, but the clear favourites in Nassau will be world champions Jamaica. However, during the run, the sled crashed in one of the turns which took away the teams possibility of an officially recorded time.

[hr] Jamaican Youth Show Promise as Branden Rhoden scores game high 3 goals in the loss History was made as St. George’s College played host to the first ever Jamaica Friendship Games, which pitted the Jamaica Select U-19 boys team against a squad from the USA that was in Jamaica as part of the Lacrosse Volunteer Corps program run by the non-profit organization, Fields of Growth. The young Jamaicans dropped the match-up by a score of 9-4, but were impressive in their debut going goal for goal with their international counterparts in the second half. The milestone event also featured a women’s demonstration game that included Jamaica’s top high school girls lacrosse players and American volunteers. [hr] Top dogs of group C Jamaica and Scotland battled it out on court for the number one spot, and Jamaica convincingly beat the hosts 65-30. The Scottish defence worked well together in the first half with some effective pressure. Goal Keeper, Shaungah McCuaig played particularly well, hassling her shooter with good effect, but the ball lay firmly with the Jamaicans as they powered it through the court, building up a lead of 18 goals to 9 at the first break.   The start of the second quarter saw a small glint of hope for Scotland. They started the quarter strongly and looked set to bring back the lead. However Jamaica retaliated with a 10 goal scoring spree and from then on it was all down hill for the Scots. Despite the loud cheering from the home crowd, Scotland couldn’t hold it together and unforced errors began to creep in. Jamaica remained consistent, and eased through the remainder of the match.   With two games left of the group stages, Jamaica’s captain Vangelee Williams was fearless in her expectations. “We’re very much confident. We’re pretty sure we’ll win.” [hr] [column2] [/column2] [column2_last] [/column2_last] [hr] Editorial courtesy Farah Hasan, Planet Netball […]
