Jamaica U20 second half come back to draw with Trinidad

by admin· January 10, 2015· in Football, Reggae Boyz, Soccer, Sourced· 0 comments tags: CONCACAF Boys U20 Jamaica, U20, Young Reggae Boyz
Jamaica staged a furious rally to earn a 2-2 draw in the first match for each in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship on Friday at the National Stadium. The Soca Warriors struck twice in the opening 15 minutes, but Junior Flemmings fired a 23-yard free kick into the back of the net in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage to complete the comeback. Aikim Andrews gave the Trinidadians a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, ripping a right-sided shot from 35-yards out that may have taken a deflection before it sailed over the head of goalkeeper Nicholas Nelson. Nine minutes later, Kadeem Corbin – the top scorer in the final round of Caribbean qualifying with five goals – doubled the advantage.   After the break, Trinidad stayed on the front foot, nearly making it 3-0 in the 56th minute. An attempt by Kevon Goddard from 20-yards out appeared to be deflected, forcing Nelson to remain alert in order to make a save. Duane Muckette could have put the game on ice shortly afterwards, only to snap his effort – while in a one-on-one situation with Nelson – beyond the left post.
So, the news is finally out and many Jamaicans are in a state of shock. Jamaica’s ‘queen of the track’, Veronica Campbell Brown has failed a drug test. The two-time Olympic gold medalist, defending 200-metre world champion, and 100-metre world champion returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) after competing at the Jamaica International Invitational on May 4, 2013 at the National Stadium here in Kingston. For two days after the news first broke that one of Jamaica’s star athletes had failed a drug test, Jamaicans waited on pins and needles to hear who that athlete was. On Friday night, their worst fears were realized. Many couldn’t believe it. They still can’t and have simply chosen to run away from it. VCB was perhaps the most ‘pure’ of our stars. Most of us don’t know very much about her because of her very rigid approach to her privacy but we love her because she is ‘humble’, a trait most Jamaicans seem to connect with. We see Bolt, the fastest man alive ever, and commercially the most successful track and field athlete in history, as being cocky but to us VCB seemed like a sweet innocent soul who has been winning […]

Mexico secured 3 crucial points after a win against Jamaica
A goal from Aldo De Nigris early in the second half saw Mexico beat Jamaica 1-0 on the road in Kingston. It was the Mexicans’ first victory of the CONCACAF Hexagonal round and it sends them to the top of the six-team group, tied on points with Panama. The result leaves the Jamaicans’ hopes of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in tatters as they are rooted to last place on two points, with only one goal to show from their four games. The home side asked most of the questions early on, pressing up in attack and looking to lone striker Ryan Johnson as their outlet. The Mexicans were content to sit back on their heels and hope for the occasional counter-attack. The first chance of any note came after 12 minutes when Monterrey target-man De Nigris snapped a header from near the penalty spot on the end of a cross from the right side. It was well handled by Jamaican goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
[column2] [/column2] [column2_last] [/column2_last]
There were precious few chances of any consequence as the half wound down, but Mexico looked short on ideas going forward, even with De Nigris, Javier Chicharito […]
