[hr] So, the news is finally out and many Jamaicans are in a state of shock. Jamaica’s ‘queen of the track’, Veronica Campbell Brown has failed a drug test. The two-time Olympic gold medalist, defending 200-metre world champion, and 100-metre world champion returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) after competing at the Jamaica International Invitational on May 4, 2013 at the National Stadium here in Kingston. For two days after the news first broke that one of Jamaica’s star athletes had failed a drug test, Jamaicans waited on pins and needles to hear who that athlete was. On Friday night, their worst fears were realized. Many couldn’t believe it. They still can’t and have simply chosen to run away from it. VCB was perhaps the most ‘pure’ of our stars. Most of us don’t know very much about her because of her very rigid approach to her privacy but we love her because she is ‘humble’, a trait most Jamaicans seem to connect with. We see Bolt, the fastest man alive ever, and commercially the most successful track and field athlete in history, as being cocky but to us VCB seemed like a sweet innocent soul who has been winning […]

[hr] Jason Morgan is one of the most determined Jamaican sport personalities that I know. The former Calabar High School man virtually coached himself to the Olympic Games in 2012 and a couple IAAF World Champion-ships before that with little resources, all while juggling a regular 9-5. That has changed and the 30-year-old is taking the first steps towards a successful 2013 season. Let’s get to really know that man who shared many an Olympic headline with Usain Bolt, as he speaks about his love for the women’s 100m, his area-leader-type nickname, his days as a sprinter, as well as the painful death of his mother – something he is reminded of every day; none more than on Mother’s Day itself. [hr] [hr] Let’s Talk! André Lowe (AL): Jason ‘Dadz’ Morgan; first of all, explain to me why people call you ‘Dadz’, makes you sound like a little area leader or something? Jason Morgan (JM): (laughs) The name ‘Dadz’ is timeless! I am a leader, but not an area leader. Seriously though, I have had that name since my time at Waterford Primary School in grade four. I guess I’ve shown leadership skills since a young age. AL: Let’s hear […]

MEN’S 200 FINAL The race for Bronze is on. Who will win it?     THE BRONZE Warren Weir Christophe Lemaitre Wallace Spearmon Churandy Martina The GOLD and Silver are gone already. It will be Bolt or Blake. The bronze is a wide open affair. Christophe Lemaitre He looked god before the semi. He ran like a novice and held his head while he waited to see if his time would advance him into the finals. Wallace Spearmon He was disqualified in the last Olympics after placing third. He would like to make amends but he doesn’t look smooth. Churandy Martina Aww, this dude is hilarious. He bumped Gatlin when they both beat Asafa in the semis to advance to the finals of the 100 on Sunday night. Oh, how quickly we forget? In a desperate bid to get more medals, the U.S. track association showed footage of Martina stepping on the line several times resulting in his disqualification after placing second. In doing that the officials also realized that Spearmon also stepped on the line and was disqualified. Aii sa, tief never love fi see tief wid long bag. L.O.L. by admin· August 03, 2012· in JO Articles, London 2012, Profiles, Real Talk with Team Jamaica, Track and Field· 1512 comments
There was much anticipation around who would be selected the female team captain for the 2012 Jamaican Olympic team a few weeks ago. With an exceptional group of women fit for the position only one was chosen. The majority of the team and management stood behind the name of Novlene Williams-Mills. When you hear her story then you will see why she was the perfect fit for the part. Novlene Williams-Mills is the women’s 400m National Champion with a personal best of 49.63 seconds. She is a very pleasant and fun individual to be around. She is a hard worker with a focused work ethic that doesn’t allow anyone or anything to get in the way of her success. She said her most joyous and prized trait is being a devout, loving and caring wife. She is very confident and is looking forward to leading the team to creating history in London. TeamJa.org reached out to Clora Williams sister of Novlene who is another decorated athlete for Jamaica to see what she had to say: “I am very proud of my sister. She is my biggest motivation in life. She inspires me to become a better person and to be […]

by admin· July 26, 2012· in JO Articles, Real Talk with Team Jamaica, Track and Field· 8960 comments
Allison is the 24 year old Discus star that captured a bronze medal for Jamaica at the 2011 CAC Championships in Puerto Rico. She is also the first Jamaican female to qualify with a throw of 61.21m to break a 26 year old record to represent Jamaica in the Olympics. After catching up with Allison you will see the true talent that she is and the bright future ahead of her. Allison was born in the states but her mother is from Kingston, Jamaica.  She is a true Jamaican at heart. She loves the culture, food and her home away from home.  Allison is all about the representing the Green, Black and Gold.  Since 2006 Randall has been throwing the shot put and 6 years later she is about to take on the main stage. (Allison)  I grew up playing basketball and tried discus since then the rest was history.  I started to get the urge in 2008 I knew I had the physical attributes of a world class discus thrower but lacked the knowledge of the event.  My coach Glenwood Edwards at the time refueled my fire and coached me to NCAA’s and I became more and more hungry […]

“Dadz” The Great…

by admin· July 23, 2012· in JO Articles, News, Real Talk with Team Jamaica, Track and Field· 2454 comments
Get ready for the vibes because that is what Jason “Dadz” Morgan is all about. TeamJa.org had the pleasure of catching up with Jamaica’s National Record holder and Olympian in order to share a little of him with you.   THE GREAT “DADZ” You hardly hear Jason Morgan being called Jason or Morgan. The infamous nickname Dadz, has been recognized worldwide. “I have always been known as Dadz, since I was going to Waterford primary school. I got it from my father. Everybody called him dad; they knew I was his son, so they called me dad’s boy. The boy dropped off and I got my own name and image as Dadz. Dadz means the leader, someone with great responsibility. The name made it through primary, high school and has its place around the world.” The catchy nick name also has a catch word. When you hear the word “Timeless” you think of Dadz. So what does it mean? “Timeless is a personal slang, it can mean so much things, but to me time is everything and everything takes time, so I say Timeless”.     MAN OF GOD Jason is not motivated solely by his strong faith in God […]
