Veronica Campbell-Brown: ‘I will press on!’ – IAAF Online Diaries

In her latest IAAF Online Diary entry, Veronica Campbell-Brown discusses her experience at the Olympic Games in London where she added two more medals to her illustrious collection. Although she didn’t walk away with gold, and didn’t win a medal in the 200m, the 30-year-old Jamaican was not disappointed.

“One can only begin to talk about August with the English capital as the main subject. London hosted the Olympic Games and did an absolutely splendid job. I was impressed by the organisation of the Games and the massive crowds at every session of athletics augurs well for the future of our sport.

“I walked away from the Games with two medals, a bronze in the 100m and a silver in the 4x100m relays. Yes, you read correctly, no medal in the 200m for me… .LOL. A lot has been said about my preparation and readiness without proper information, however, given what I went through in the 2012 season from a medical perspective, I am very appreciative of what I earned in London and congratulate the ladies who were able to secure higher medals. I take this opportunity to thank my loyal supporters and rest assured, I will press on!

“My August was not just about London and athletics. I took some time out to train with my group in Budapest prior to their competition at a circuit meet there and I certainly enjoyed the downtime, the chance to better know my fellow On Track Management (OTM) teammates and the graciousness of the host. We spent an evening watching a football (soccer) match between Hungary and Israel and I did some light shopping.

“From Budapest I went to Switzerland, an absolutely beautiful place, to prepare for the Lausanne Diamond League meet. It was just my second time in Lausanne and must say everything about the organisation of this event was impressive not to mention my visit to the Olympic museum. The large and appreciative crowd with their loud cheering enhanced my perception. I trust that in the future I will be able to return and repay the organisers and spectators with a win.

“Lausanne marked the end of my competitive 2012 season. I have turned my focus to correcting the medical challenges that confronted me and looking ahead to the 2013 season.

“Thanks for reading,”
