[hr] Glen Mills, the legendary Jamaican track coach, has expressed great sadness at news of the positive drug test of the outstanding female sprinter, Veronica Campbell Brown. While not commenting in detail on the test, Mills, in an interview with RJR Sports on Saturday, reiterated the stellar record of Campbell Brown over the years and her “solid reputation”. Accordingly, he said it was very important to await her explanation of the circumstances surrounding the positive test. Campbell-Brown’s positive drug test came at the Jamaica International Invitational World Challenge meet in Kingston on May 4. The seven-time Olympic medallist, who also has nine medals at the World Championships, tested positive for the prohibited substance, Lasix, which also goes by the name Furosemide. Lasix is a form of diuretic which promotes the production of urine and treats medical conditions, including high blood pressure and edema. It is viewed as a masking agent by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA). It is understood that the Campbell-Brown, who was advised of the adverse finding last week, had the “B” sample tested at the WADA-accredited laboratory in Montreal, Canada on Thursday, which returned positive.
