Edwin Allen demolishes all comers on Day 2 of #Champs2013

Edwin Allen were in commanding form on the second day of the 2013 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, as they finished first and third in the three finals contested on Wednesday. The defending champions closed the day with 45 points to establish a 24 points advantage over nine-time champions Holmwood Technical High (21). The top five was rounded out by St Jago (16), Manchester High (eight) and St Andrew Technical High (five).   Tarasue Barnett got the Clarendon-based school off to the perfect start, as she successfully defended her Discus Class One title, breaking her own championship record as well as accounting for the national junior record in the process. The 18-year-old’s throw of 51.15m eclipsed her previous Champs record mark of 50.76m, which she had established last year and bettered Kellion Knibb’s previous national junior record mark of 51.02m, which was also set last year. Barnett’s team-mate, Tasha Crosse, claimed the bronze medal with her throw of 43.83m to earn their team 15 points from the first girl’s final. Reggae Boyz Home Games Vital to Qualification

On March 22 Jamaica will take on Panama at the National Stadium (The Office). This will be their 1st home match of the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, also known as the Hexagonal. For Jamaica to guarantee a top 3 spot and automatically qualify for Brazil in 2014, Jamaica must aim to get 18 points to cement and book their tickets to the 20th edition of the FIFA World Cup. The Office has proven to be a fortress for Jamaica in World Cup Qualifiers especially in recent times as Jamaica has won each of their last 7 World Cup Qualifiers at the Office. The streak started against Bahamas in June 2008 and ended most recently against Antigua and Barbuda in October 2012.
