Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jamaica’s much-decorated “Pocket Rocket”, loves relays. After all, in addition to being the world and Olympic champion at 100m, the diminutive sprinter was the anchor of Jamaica’s championship-record-setting 4x100m relay team in Moscow, the second-fastest of all time at 41.29. She also led off Jamaica’s silver medal team in London, bested there only by USA’s 40.82 world record run. Fraser-Pryce will be carrying the baton twice for Jamaica in Nassau, entered in both the 4x100m and 4x200m pools. With 24 countries entering teams – from Jamaica’s Rocket-powered 4x100m to Bahrain’s 4x1500m team featuring Maryam Yusuf Jamal – every women’s race list includes global champions. And for every team with a world or Olympic champion, there is another quartet hoping to gain just enough ground on the other three legs to overcome that advantage. [hr] Watch IAAF World Relays LIVE Stream Women’s 4x100M The USA holds the world record of 40.82 in this event, set in London at the 2012 Olympics, but the clear favourites in Nassau will be world champions Jamaica. While the USA only have one member of their world-record-setting team from London, Jamaica has all four of the world championship-winning team from Moscow […]

Tessanne Chin Wins The Voice Season 5

Tessanne Chin’s dream of becoming an international musical artist came true Tuesday night when she took home the title of Season 5 of “The Voice.” “The winner of ‘The Voice’ is Tessanne Chin,” host Carson Daly said. “Jamaica is celebrating with the United States tonight.”   NBC Tessanne Chin on “The Voice” finale. The Jamaica native brought a diverse catalog of songs to the competition stage throughout the season, proving she could do it all. With poise and grace she immediately started her journey by singing an original song OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder wrote for the winner.   NBC/Trae Patton/NBC In the moments before she was announced the winner, Tessanne Chin thanked Adam Levine (pictured): ‘A better coach for me I could not find.’ Under the tutelage People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” Adam Levine, Chin raced to the finish leaving the other two finalists — Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee — in her musical dust. NBC/Tyler Golden/NBC During the finale, Chin had the opportunity to sing with one of her musical idols, Celine Dion. “A better coach for me I could not find,” she told Levine during the final moments before Daly announced her big win. “I thank you every […]

Who will get the last word on ‘The Voice’?

by admin· December 09, 2013· in Jamaica, JO Articles, News· 0 comments tags: Bread and Butta, Team Tessanne, Tessanne Chin, The Voice
Team Adam and Team Christina are competing for championship, as are finalists Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee. The Voice is getting ready to crown a new winner — among its contestants and its coaches. NBC’s singing competition is down to a trio of finalists who are vying to be the Season 5 champion during finale week (Monday, 8 ET/PT, and Tuesday, 9 ET/PT). But the winningest coach at The Voice won’t have a singer in the running. Country music artist Blake Shelton, who has had three consecutive wins in four seasons, has no horse in this headlining race. His last chance, country-rock-soul singer Cole Vosbury from Louisiana, was eliminated last week, along with coach Adam Levine’s rock balladeer James Wolpert. “Blake’s won this thing three times, so he can sit this one out,” says host Carson Daly. “Give somebody else a chance here.” Who’s left to sing their hearts out? Levine’s Tessanne Chin and Will Champlin, and Christina Aguilera’s young protégé, Jacquie Lee. “These three — all of them — their last two performances have all been so strong,” Daly says. “The winner might be the one who doesn’t mess up, so at this point, don’t screw up.” […]
