London: Usain Bolt insisted “this is my time” Tuesday ahead of his bid to become the first man to win back-to-back Olympic titles in both the 100m and 200m — despite the emergence of Jamaican rival Yohan Blake. Olympics 2012 Jamaica Olympics Schedule | SHOP Bolt told the website of Britain’s Guardian newspaper he was ready to cast off an indifferent build-up and make history at London 2012, four years after his show-stopping performance at the Beijing Games. “This will be the moment, and this will be the year, when I set myself apart from other athletes in the world,” he said. “A lot of legends, a lot of people, have come before me. But this is my time.” The 1.96m (six foot five) Jamaican lit up Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium in 2008 when he smashed the 100m world record to claim gold with apparent ease, raising his arms in celebration well before crossing the finish line. Bolt, now 25, also galloped to victory in the 200m, in another world record time, and helped Jamaica win the 4x100m, lining him up for a second successive treble in London. But the world’s fastest man, with the distinctive bow-and-arrow celebration, has had an […]

Get ready for the vibes because that is what Jason “Dadz” Morgan is all about. TeamJa.org had the pleasure of catching up with Jamaica’s National Record holder and Olympian in order to share a little of him with you. THE GREAT “DADZ” You hardly hear Jason Morgan being called Jason or Morgan. The infamous nickname Dadz, has been recognized worldwide. “I have always been known as Dadz, since I was going to Waterford primary school. I got it from my father. Everybody called him dad; they knew I was his son, so they called me dad’s boy. The boy dropped off and I got my own name and image as Dadz. Dadz means the leader, someone with great responsibility. The name made it through primary, high school and has its place around the world.” The catchy nick name also has a catch word. When you hear the word “Timeless” you think of Dadz. So what does it mean? “Timeless is a personal slang, it can mean so much things, but to me time is everything and everything takes time, so I say Timeless”. MAN OF GOD Jason is not motivated solely by his strong faith in God […]

BIRMINGHAM, England: The Jamaican Olympic delegation could in the next few hours announce the team’s flag-bearer and official track and field team captains for the London Olympic Games. A meeting has been scheduled to discuss the matter at 9:00pm (3:00 p.m Jamaica time). Team manager Ludlow Watts, who is also the treasurer at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), believes the flag bearer will most likely be one of the 47 track and field athletes, given the prestige of the sport and the size of the team in relation to Jamaica’s 50-member squad, which is completed by swimmer Alia Atkinson, Taekwondo expert Kenneth Edwards and Equestrian Samantha Albert. The JAAA is responsible for naming the male and female track and field team captains but can only make recommendations to the Jamaica Olympic Association as far as a flag bearer is concerned. Likely candidates for the flag-bearer role include triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt, veteran decathlete Maurice Smith and Brigitte Foster-Hylton. In an interview with The Gleaner several weeks ago, JOA president Mike Fennell said Bolt would be a suitable flag-bearer. “The flag bearer is usually determined in camp, we consult with every body, we do a wide consultation and in […]

Dreams are meant to become a reality and hard work is meant to be rewarded. At all times God is to be Glorified and each step of the way one should keep Moving in Faith” ~ Zara Northover There has been a Moving in Faith movement over the last few years and Zara Northover has been spreading the motto through t-shirts, bracelets and words of encouragement. It all started in 2007 for Northover as she and fellow captains of the Women’s Track and Field program at Northeastern University in Boston came together to rally their team to win their first Colonial Athletic Association championship. “My team needed uplifting and therefore other captains and I went out and bought tank tops that we designed together the night before our competition. On the back of mine I wrote moving in faith and all my teammates names. During my speech I said that we are not doing this for just ourselves or our school, but this is for our family, each other and for God. We just have to keep Moving in Faith because at all costs we will then be unstoppable.” Needless to say Northover scored 34 points in the throws […]
