[hr] Kingston, Jamaica, June 1, 2013 – Jamaica and Nicaragua both moved into the NORCECA Third Round of Qualifiers towards the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship by scoring a couple of victories on Saturday in the preliminary phase of the Group M Tournament. Jamaica registered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) victory over Suriname in the nightcap of the first day of action at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium. Earlier in the evening, Nicaragua had scored an easy 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-4) win over Bermuda. In the morning matches, Nicaragua overcame Suriname in four sets (28-26, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23) while Jamaica beat Bermuda 25-11, 25-16, 25-8. [hr] A goal from Aldo De Nigris early in the second half saw Mexico beat Jamaica 1-0 on the road in Kingston. It was the Mexicans’ first victory of the CONCACAF Hexagonal round and it sends them to the top of the six-team group, tied on points with Panama. The result leaves the Jamaicans’ hopes of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in tatters as they are rooted to last place on two points, with only one goal to show from their four games. The home side asked most of the questions early on, pressing up in attack and looking to lone striker Ryan Johnson as their outlet. The Mexicans were content to sit back on their heels and hope for the occasional counter-attack. The first chance of any note came after 12 minutes when Monterrey target-man De Nigris snapped a header from near the penalty spot on the end of a cross from the right side. [hr] Tottenham Hotspur played out an entertaining 0-0 draw with the Jamaican national team as part of their post-season trip to the Bahamas. But a 39th-minute injury to Kyle Walker soured the stalemate between Spurs and Theodore Whitmore’s side, as the defender hobbled off following a strong challenge by Evan Taylor.
