Jamaican Alpine Skier Michael Williams

by admin· February 13, 2015· in News, Winter Olympics· 0 comments tags: Jamaican Alpine Skier, Jamaican Skier, Michael Williams, skiing
Jamaican Alpine Skier Michael Williams Michael Williams only discovered skiing by accident. As an 18-year-old of Caribbean descent living in Canada, he had turned on his TV to watch the celebrated Jamaican bobsled team at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, but got hooked on skiing as well. He loved the way Alberto Tomba of Italy and Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland glided down the slopes. “I wanted it too,” Williams, now aged 45, says of the revelation on his blog page, called ‘Jamaican Dream Chaser’. “I wanted to be called ‘Blackman Zurbriggen.’ I wanted to be a beast on the slopes like he was.” Over time the dream faded; Williams excelled instead at American football and even played professionally for a while in Europe as a quarterback and receiver. Jamaica U20 second half come back to draw with Trinidad

by admin· January 10, 2015· in Football, Reggae Boyz, Soccer, Sourced· 0 comments tags: CONCACAF Boys U20 Jamaica, U20, Young Reggae Boyz
Jamaica staged a furious rally to earn a 2-2 draw in the first match for each in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship on Friday at the National Stadium. The Soca Warriors struck twice in the opening 15 minutes, but Junior Flemmings fired a 23-yard free kick into the back of the net in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage to complete the comeback. Aikim Andrews gave the Trinidadians a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, ripping a right-sided shot from 35-yards out that may have taken a deflection before it sailed over the head of goalkeeper Nicholas Nelson. Nine minutes later, Kadeem Corbin – the top scorer in the final round of Caribbean qualifying with five goals – doubled the advantage.   After the break, Trinidad stayed on the front foot, nearly making it 3-0 in the 56th minute. An attempt by Kevon Goddard from 20-yards out appeared to be deflected, forcing Nelson to remain alert in order to make a save. Duane Muckette could have put the game on ice shortly afterwards, only to snap his effort – while in a one-on-one situation with Nelson – beyond the left post. Yohan Blake out for season after surgery

by admin· July 23, 2014· in News, Sourced, Track and Field· 0 comments
Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint silver medallist Yohan Blake has been ruled out for the rest of the 2014 season after undergoing surgery on an injured hamstring, coach Glen Mills said on Tuesday. The 24-year-old sustained the injury in the 100 metres at the Glasgow Grand Prix on July 11. “Right now he’s on crutches, he had to have an operation a couple of days ago,” Mills told Reuters. [column2] [/column2][column2_last] [/column2_last] “The injury was quite severe and the original prognosis was misdiagnosed and he went Germany and when they had a good look, they realised that it was more serious and required surgery, so he’ll be out for quite a long time.” Blake, who could not defend his 100m world title in Moscow last year because of a hamstring injury, had opted against racing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting on Wednesday to concentrate his build-up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Team Jamaica World Relays predictions

JOE SPEAKS Only an disaster of epic proportion can stop Jamaica from winning 3 definite gold medals with two additional almost in the bag. Wait, zip up the bag please.   I PREDICT GOLD FOR JAMAICA IN WOMEN’S 4X100 A botched exchange or dropped baton and it will not happen in the name of Jesus. Somebody bring me my church fan and my iced tea. Glory. L.O.L. No relation to Glory Alozie. DWL. As I said if we run Carrie to Stewart to Annie to Shelly then we win easily. MEN’S 4X100 Easy does it for this one. I am sure our junior team could beat the U.S. Again barring drama we should win easily. MEN’S 4X200 The world record could go but it’s too early in the season and everyone isn’t race sharp. It all depends on the lineup. Do I hear whispers from the penny section that they should add the 4X200 to the Olympics and World Championships? Talk up di tings. POSSIBLE GOLD WOMEN’S 4X200 It will be tough if we use the same four girls from the 4X100 to run in the 4X200. If both were straight finals then I would say hell yeah. A […]
