Reggae Boyz Hold Mexico to Draw at Azteca in WCQ Opening Match

by admin· February 07, 2013· in Brazil, FIFA, Football, Gallery, Images, News· 1274 comments
Mexico City, Mexico – Who would have thought it possible? Jamaica, the tiny Caribbean island of just 2.7 million people, went to the Estadio Azteca and battled the North Americans, who boast a population of 115 million, 21.2 of which reside in Mexico City, to a 0-0 in their opening World Cup Qualifying Final Round encounter Wednesday night. It was a historic result for Jamaica, who have been bombarded 8-0, 2-1, 6-0, 4-0, and 3-0 in five previous World Cup encounters in Mexico City. It leaves Jamaica on one point, the same as Mexico, and two behind Honduras, who lead the six-team group on three points after their 2-1 victory over the United States earlier in the day. Panama and Costa Rica are also on one point, after playing to a 2-2 result in Panama City.   The Reggae Boyz and those close to the team were hoping for a “One Love” result on Bob Marley’s birthday, but they would be left satisfied after the final result. The first half featured a few close calls, but no goals. The Jamaicans nearly took an early advantage when Jobi McAnuff’s header hit the post and the ball bounced neatly back to his […]

by admin· July 30, 2012· in Images, JO Articles, News, Swimming· 2127 comments
Jamaica is On a Mission, and this is what Alia Atkinson and other Jamaican Olympic Athletes are out to prove, at the London 2012 Olympics. July 29, 2012 will be a day that will never be forgotten by Alia. She performed at a very high level to prove that she deserves a spot in the 100 metres breaststroke final, when the odds were against her. July 29, 2012 will be a day that Jamaicans remember as the first day that they really felt the overwhelming 2012 Olympic pride for our athletes in London. Alia Atkinson won her 100 metres breaststroke heat and took the lead for the most part in her semi-final race. In the final lap of this event, she fell behind to tie for fourth position with the competitor from Canada, Tera Van Beilen. One would believe that Atkinson would be tired and struggle in her swim off; that was not the case. Alia rallied and from the moment she hit the water she lead the race. She ended up swimming the fifth fastest time to make the 100 metres breaststroke final. Alia will be swimming from lane eight; nonetheless, this is not seen as a disadvantage as […]

Moving In Faith : Zara Northover

by admin· July 20, 2012· in Images, JO Articles, Profiles, Track and Field· 1353 comments
Dreams are meant to become a reality and hard work is meant to be rewarded.  At all times God is to be Glorified and each step of the way one should keep Moving in Faith” ~ Zara Northover   There has been a Moving in Faith movement over the last few years and Zara Northover has been spreading the motto through t-shirts, bracelets and words of encouragement.   It all started in 2007 for Northover as she and fellow captains of the Women’s Track and Field program at Northeastern University in Boston came together to rally their team to win their first Colonial Athletic Association championship.  “My team needed uplifting and therefore other captains and I went out and bought tank tops that we designed together the night before our competition.  On the back of mine I wrote moving in faith and all my teammates names. During my speech I said that we are not doing this for just ourselves or our school, but this is for our family, each other and for God.  We just have to keep Moving in Faith because at all costs we will then be unstoppable.”  Needless to say Northover scored 34 points in the throws […]
