Dr. Herb Elliott, Chairman of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) has confirmed receiving reports of adverse analytical findings from ‘A’samples for five Jamaican athletes. “The process of the result management has commenced in accordance with the JADCO Anti-doping rules” Dr. Elliott told RJR Sports. “We cannot disclose any further information until the athletes have responded to notification of the ‘A’ sample” he added. Two Olympic medallists are among five Jamaicans who returned adverse analytical findings for banned performance enhancing drugs at the National Championships in June. According to highly placed track and field sources, four of the athletes are in the senior ranks, while the fifth is a junior. Two of those athletes are sprinters while the other three athletes compete in the field events.
[column2] [/column2] [column2_last] [/column2_last]
Edwin Allen were in commanding form on the second day of the 2013 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, as they finished first and third in the three finals contested on Wednesday. The defending champions closed the day with 45 points to establish a 24 points advantage over nine-time champions Holmwood Technical High (21). The top five was rounded out by St Jago (16), Manchester High (eight) and St Andrew Technical High (five).   Tarasue Barnett got the Clarendon-based school off to the perfect start, as she successfully defended her Discus Class One title, breaking her own championship record as well as accounting for the national junior record in the process. The 18-year-old’s throw of 51.15m eclipsed her previous Champs record mark of 50.76m, which she had established last year and bettered Kellion Knibb’s previous national junior record mark of 51.02m, which was also set last year. Barnett’s team-mate, Tasha Crosse, claimed the bronze medal with her throw of 43.83m to earn their team 15 points from the first girl’s final. The silver medal was won by Holmwood Technical’s Gleneve Grange (49.05m). Edwin Allen was back at it again in the girls’ shot put Class Two final, as they garnered […]

Herculez Gomez scored off a second-half free-kick as USA got their 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifying campaign back on track with a 1-0 win over Jamaica on Tuesday. Gomez curled in a shot from the right side in the 55th minute for the Americans, who avenged a loss to Jamaica last week and earned three points with Tuesday’s win in front of a crowd of 24,000 at Columbus Crew Stadium. USA, Jamaica, and Guatemala all have seven points atop Group A in the semi-final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The top two teams from each group advance to the final phase of qualifying next year. Guatemala and the United States hold the edge over Jamaica with a superior goal difference. In the other group match, Guatemala defeated Antigua and Barbuda 1-0. USA has two games left in this round as they host Antigua and Barbuda on 12 October, then travel to Guatemala four days later. Jamaica claimed its first-ever win against the United States on Friday with a 2-1 victory in Kingston. The United States dominated the opening half, but failed to convert their chances as the game remained scoreless going into […]
